About Dr. LeClair-Underberg
Dr. LeClair-Underberg's research focuses primarily on the ways in which individuals communicatively negotiate identity in the face of unexpected relational turning points. With this line of research, she has conducted studies on communication surrounding issues of infertility, miscarriage, motherhood, drug abuse and sexuality. Dr. LeClair-Underberg is especially interested in reproductive issues and the ways in which family members, such as spouses or partners, communicatively cope in the face of unexpected or ongoing reproductive difficulties.
Sample of Courses Taught
COMM 3326 Family Communication
A study of the theory and research exploring the family process and communication in a variety of family types. The class also utilizes a wide variety of activities and exercises to analyze and improve one's own communication skills within the family. Prerequisite: COMM 2315.
COMM 3328 Communication & Gender
Investigates the interactive nature of communication and gender, the creation of gender identities, and the role of gender and communication in a variety of settings. Prerequiste: COMM 2315.
COMM 5301 Empirical Methods in Communication Research
An examination of empirical research methods in communication studies. Measure procedures, statistics, experimental design, and descriptive research methods will be investigated as well as a consideration scholarly writing and library research. Requied of Communication Studies majors.
